Pedavena between Monte Avena, history and enjoyment
Pedavena can be explored through several specific points of interest and activities. For planning your trip, the focus is on natural experiences at Monte Avena, historic sites, circular trails, local products, and visits. Depending on your interests, you can place greater emphasis on outdoor activities, cultural history, or regional specialties.
Nature and trails on Monte Avena
In Pian d’Avena in Pedavena, the park’s information and refreshment point at the foot of the Vette Feltrine offers picnic tables, fire pits for barbecues, toilets, and information material about the park. In summer, Monte Avena is used for walks through extensive pastureland. It is also used by people interested in free flight.
In addition to hiking, some routes in the municipality of Pedavena are also suitable for mountain biking. Most of the routes described by the municipality of Pedavena can be hiked year-round. They run mainly within the municipal area and are circular routes whose start and finish are at the same place. The Anello del Monte Avena is marked with white and blue directional arrows bearing its name.
A special combination of exercise and regional flavor is offered by Magna e Cammina: The 7-kilometer walking route leads through the forests and across the mountain pastures of Monte Avena and includes four tasting stations for local specialties.
Historic sites and special insights
Villa Pasole was built on the ruins of an ancient castle. It was the seat of the Accademia degli Erranti, a circle of intellectuals and artists. The Santuario dei Santi Tiburzio e Susanna is located on Monte Avena above Facen at an altitude of 929 meters. From Facen, the sanctuary can be reached via a steep path. It has very ancient origins and was probably built on the ruins of an ancient watchtower.
The Fabbrica in Pedavena can also be explored as part of a tour. Tours are available year-round by prior reservation. A guided tour lasts about 60 minutes and includes the brewhouse and the historical museum. Old tools, machines, and equipment are displayed.
At the archaeological site on Monte Avena, a small number of Middle Paleolithic, or Mousterian, artifacts were found. They were made by Neanderthals around 60,000 years ago. The site adds a significantly older period to Pedavena’s historical themes.
Local products and events
The Mercatini nel Parco Birreria Pedavena give visitors the opportunity to discover and purchase locally produced and handcrafted goods. During the Fonte di Santa Susanna festival on August 11, residents of Facen walk to the sanctuary. On July 15 and 16, 2023, the Festa dell’Orzo took place in Pedavena; it included events, music, food, and beer.
When choosing accommodation in Pedavena, you can therefore first decide which focus should define your stay: trails and pastureland on Monte Avena, historic buildings and archaeological sites, a reserved tour of the Fabbrica, or local products and events.
