Tremosine between the Forra Gorge, mountain trails and cultural heritage

Tremosine showcases its diversity through places that connect nature, trails and history with the surrounding landscape. The Strada della Forra was officially inaugurated on 18 May 1913. It can be explored by bicycle or on foot; from the first tunnel, a footpath runs along the old road. This makes it possible to experience the famous route in different ways, without its historical character being overshadowed by the experience itself.

Nature and trails around Tremosine

The Valle di Bondo has been a nature reserve since 1980 and is of particular naturalistic interest. Its network of trails enables experienced cyclists and hikers to reach Tremalzo via a challenging gravel road. For sport-oriented days, this area is therefore one of the key destinations around Tremosine.

The Sentiero Muravalle also combines distinctive trail features with a clear experience of the landscape. Marked as route number 167, the trail branches off from the paved road between Vesio di Tremosine and Passo Nota and leads straight into the forest. After approximately two hours of walking and 500 metres of elevation gain, it reaches the Rifugio Alpini di Vesio near Passo Nota at 1,208 metres above sea level, following a largely level stretch.

The Terrazza del Brivido offers a different landscape experience: it hangs more than 350 metres above the precipice. In Campione, kitesurfing is the sport that attracts the greatest public interest.

History, churches and local culture

The MUST presents the history of Tremosine sul Garda, its territory and the events of the war in seven rooms. The museum is scheduled to open seasonally from 1 July to 15 September: Friday to Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The historic centre of the Borgo di Tremosine features residential buildings of historical and artistic significance, including magnificent round-arched portals with rusticated stonework and elegant stone-framed openings.

The Church of San Bartolomeo in Tremosine was built in the mid-18th century. It has richly decorated interiors complemented by elaborate liturgical furnishings. The parish church of San Giovanni Battista in Tremosine is a late-17th-century building erected over the remains of a 12th-century Romanesque structure. Its bell tower preserves the still-visible trace of the Romanesque predecessor buildings from the 12th century.

The present building of the Eremo di San Michele dates from the 13th century. Its exterior walls bear traces of an earlier early-medieval structure. The hermitage stands at the crossroads of routes that historically connected Tremosine and Tignale with the Giudicaria Valleys. Architectural evidence from different periods thus converges here with a historically documented network of routes.

A taste of the plateau

The Formagella di Tremosine sul Garda is part of the local character. It is produced on the plateau of Tremosine sul Garda, in the heart of the park, where grey Alpine cows graze freely.
