Bevazzana: Waterways, Cycle Paths and Traces of Church History

Bevazzana combines waterways, cycle connections and notable traces of church history. Between the Canale di Bevazzana, the locks and historic architectural remains, it offers a destination that is particularly well suited to a carefully planned exploration of the surrounding area. Church, Oratory and Historical Layers

A painting by the Venetian artist Mario Ferrari-Bravo was donated to the church of Bevazzana and blessed by Monsignor Cicuttini on 26 December 1954. The work is therefore one of the site's specific references to church history.

The former Church of Santa Maria di Bevazzana was moved to Lignano in 1965. During its dismantling and relocation, the remains of an early Christian oratory were discovered in 1965–1966 at a depth of approximately 55 centimetres. Roman structures dating from the 1st to the 3rd or 4th century AD may have stood beneath the present-day building, possibly a villa with an adjoining necropolis or a pagan place of worship. An early Christian oratory was probably built there in the 4th or 5th century AD. These cautious dates preserve the historical character of this tradition.

Cycle Paths Along Locks and Waterways

Itinerario no. 4 follows a cycle and pedestrian path away from road traffic to the locks of Bevazzana. The swing bridge over the Bevazzana basin is located there. The route thus connects a specific technical installation with the area's waterways.

Itinerario no. 5 follows the Canale di Bevazzana, which is considered an ancient Venetian coastal waterway. Along this route lies a pine forest that is home to numerous plant and animal species. These include the protected butterfly Zerynthia polyxena from the Papilionidae family.

The Terzo Bacino e i Casoni route starts in the village of Bevazzana and follows the Litoranea Veneta waterway by bicycle. It runs alongside the lagoon habitat and the open landscape of Terzo Bacino. Another cycle path passes through the built-up area of Bevazzana and then returns towards Bibione.

Places of Interest in the Surrounding Area

On the Bibione–Portogruaro tourist route, the Idrovora Bevazzana can be seen from Via Litoranea. The Palazzo Valle Carcia palace is also located in the immediate vicinity of Bevazzana. Castello di Brussa castle is situated in the surrounding area of Bevazzana.

Several beaches are also located nearby: Spiaggia di Bibione and Spiaggia di Lignano Pineta are in the immediate vicinity of Bevazzana. Spiaggia di Lignano Sabbiadoro and Spiaggia di Bibione Pineda are located in the surrounding area. The Isola dei Pescatori viewpoint is also in the vicinity of Bevazzana, while the Museo Ecclesiastico museum is located in the wider regional area.
