Another historical feature is the Optical Telegraph, located in Pastrengo between Forts Nugent and Leopold. It was equipped with an optical mechanism of the “Chiappe” type and sent coded alphanumeric messages by means of light signals to the Castelvecchio station in Verona and to the Cima Telegrafo transmitter on Monte Baldo.

Paths through the hills and plain

Local Route 2 leads from the square in Pastrengo past the viewpoint at the sites of the attack, Carlo Alberto’s rustic house, the Forte Leopold barracks and the Optical Telegraph to Fort Nugent. The gently rising hills of Pastrengo’s moraine amphitheatre and the Pol plain are crossed by a dense network of easy paths. Pastrengo is also suitable as a starting point for bike tours along the nearby cycle path.
