Villas and library in the center of Mozzecane

Villa Ciresola in the center of Mozzecane comprises a manor house, adjoining barchesse, and a large garden. The Biblioteca comunale “Galileo Galilei” is located in the villa. The municipal library can be accessed via Via Montanari and is accessible without architectural barriers. For visitors interested in culture, this site combines the historic character of a villa with a concrete municipal facility.

Villa Vecelli Cavriani is also located in the center of Mozzecane. It was built around the middle of the 18th century and restored after a period of decline. Its entrance is at Via Caterina Bon Brenzoni 5; the villa is accessible without architectural barriers. Its building history thus spans its construction in the 18th century through a later restoration.

Further villas complete this architectural picture with different historical references. Villa Brenzoni probably dates from the 17th century and appears on the northern side of Mozzecane’s town center as an 18th-century palace. Villa Canossa was built between 1769 and 1776 in the eastern part of Grezzano. Villa Miniscalchi in San Zeno is stylistically dated to the first half of the 17th century.

Churches in Mozzecane and Grezzano: a multi-layered building history

The Chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Paolo in Mozzecane is documented by the papal bull “Piae postulatio voluntatis” from 1145. The present building was created through a renovation carried out between 1747 and 1754. The apse wall also features the painting “Madonna col Bambino e i SS. Paolo e Faustino” by Giovanni Caroto, created around 1540. Earlier records, a building renovation in the 18th century, and a 16th-century painting are directly connected here in historical terms.

In Grezzano, the local church was rebuilt in its present form between 1678 and 1682. It was based on a design by the Veronese architect Vincenzo Pellesina. The interior painting dates from 1944 and was carried out by Gaetano Miolato.

Route through Grezzano and the summer season in Mozzecane

The Strada del Riso Vialone Nano Veronese IGP route passes through Grezzano di Mozzecane to Villa Canossa. On July 9, 2022, the traditional PORTÈGHI opened the summer season in Mozzecane. Alongside villas and churches, both details add a route and a precisely dated event to the description of the area.
