Barbarano Vicentino appeals to you if you would like to bring culture, landscape and regional characteristics together in a single stay. The town opens up a range extending from the Chiesa di San Giovanni in Monte through villas and historical figures to trails, mountains and extra virgin olive oil.
Sacred History and Historic Buildings
The Chiesa di San Giovanni in Monte stands on the summit of the elevation of the same name. Originally, it was a chapel of the Barbarano parish and was built on an early medieval fortified site. In the second half of the 15th century, after taking over the church, a small community of Carmelites built the monastery with its cloister and introduced devotion to the Madonna del Monte Carmelo.
Next to Villa Godi Marinoni stands the 18th-century Oratorio di San Gaetano. Villa Sangiantofetti-Arnaldi, now Villa Pedrina-Rigon, is located at the beginning of Via Crispi, near the bridge over the Bisatto Canal; its ground floor dates from the second half of the 16th century, while the upper floor dates from the following century. Palazzo dei Canonici is considered a unique Gothic-style construction in the Vicenza area.
Culture between Local History and the Surroundings
The musician and inventor Andrea Ferretto lived around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and invented the “dattilomusicografo” in Barbarano, a kind of writing and printing machine for music. In its early years, the Fiera di Santa Caterina was closely linked to agriculture and the exchange of agricultural products, and it evolved over time.
In the immediate vicinity of Barbarano Vicentino is Villa Montruglio, a palace. The surrounding area also includes the Museo Della Civilta' Contadina, a museum, Villa Saraceno, a museum, and Villa Pisani Ferri La Rocca, a palace.
Trails and Landscapes
The Sentiero della Fontana del Lavello begins in the historic center of Barbarano Vicentino. It passes through lush forests and reaches viewpoints overlooking the surrounding landscape and the Colli Berici.
Monte della Madonna, a mountain, is located nearby; Monte Tondo, a hill, is also in the immediate surroundings. Further afield in the region, Monte Venda, a mountain, is located near Barbarano Vicentino. The surrounding area also includes the viewpoint Panorama dal Piazzale della Basilica di Monte Berico.
The municipal area of Barbarano Mossano is considered the starting point for the 130-kilometer-long Alta Via dei Berici. The route is considered suitable for trekking, mountain biking and horseback riding, thereby complementing the trail experience around the Sentiero della Fontana del Lavello with a broader perspective.
Regional Characteristics
In the municipal area of Barbarano Mossano, a distinctive food-and-wine feature can be found along the Strada dei Vini; the locality is known for producing extra virgin olive oil. If you would like to include regional products in your travel planning, this feature is one of the specific aspects of the municipal area.

When choosing your accommodation, you can decide in advance what to focus on during your days: the Chiesa di San Giovanni in Monte, the villas and Palazzo dei Canonici support a cultural and historical itinerary; the Sentiero della Fontana del Lavello, the surrounding mountains and the Alta Via dei Berici support a stronger focus on trails and landscapes. If you choose a hotel or another type of accommodation, you can therefore align the decision with your personal travel plans without reducing Barbarano Vicentino to just one aspect.
