Mossano Among Mills, Villas and Rock-Cut Architecture

The Valle dei Mulini in the Mossano district comprises twelve mills, some of which are still in operation. Villa Pigafetta Camerini, an aristocratic residence from the 18th century, stands on the hill of Montruglio in Mossano. Together, these two destinations give Mossano a distinctive character shaped by mills and historic architecture.

When you cross the centre of Mossano, Villa Giulia can be seen on the right; the building probably dates from the 16th century. “Le Prigioni” is another notable structure: “Le Prigioni” in Mossano is an ancient palace carved almost entirely into the rock.

Le Prigioni: A Structure Carved into the Rock

“Le Prigioni” were probably used as watchposts for the possessions of the Bishop of Vicenza. They date from between 900 and 1100 AD and consist of three floors. The underground floor is connected to the outer door. The combination of rock-cut construction, multiple levels and its documented use makes the site interesting for visitors who want to trace history through tangible buildings.
