Schiavon combines historical traces, a rural landscape and regional culture. Historical, scenic and cultural aspects stand alongside one another as distinct themes and complement the character of the town. A castle is already mentioned in a document from 1262.

Historical Traces in the Town

Historical references can also be found around the parish church of Santa Margherita. In the 19th century, a meadow next to the church was known as “Castellare”. The church of Schiavon is associated with the years 1297 and 1303, when it appears as a parish church in the Rationes Decimarum. Together with the mention of a castle in 1262, this creates a multifaceted picture of the town’s past.

Landscape and Former Systems of Land Division

Another connection to the landscape can be seen in the possible traces of a Roman centuriation. Aerial photographs and sections of Schiavon’s present-day road network indicate, with a sufficient degree of probability, that this may have been a Roman system of land division. In 1556, the construction of irrigation ditches, known as “rogge”, was also approved for the fields in Schiavon. Looking at paths, fields and historical terms thus leads from antiquity to early modern agriculture.

Art, Villas and Industrial Heritage

Schiavon’s cultural heritage includes the Villa Chiericati-Cabianca-Lambert-Showa. Two of its rooms are decorated with frescoes attributed to Pozzo serrato. The Poli Grappa Museum in Schiavon is an anchor point on the European Route of Industrial Heritage. The building of the Poli Distillery is also considered to be of historical and scenic interest because of its loggia structure, which is typical of old Venetian country houses.

Guided Tours of the Poli Distillery

For planning your visit, the times of the guided tours are clearly defined: they are offered from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays and public holidays, they are available on request. Anyone planning a guided tour of the Poli Distillery on a Sunday or public holiday should include the request option in their daily itinerary for Schiavon. The day of the week therefore plays a role when planning a visit to the Poli Distillery.
