Solagna between paths, church and industrial history
The footpath to the Eremo di San Giorgio
The Eremo di San Giorgio has been documented since 1571. It can only be reached on foot via a well-maintained path. The Eremo is located at an altitude of 460 metres on a rock and on a ridge that forms a natural barrier on the left bank of the Canale di Brenta. Those planning this approach from Solagna can allow for an approximate walking time of 30 minutes.
Connecting route 940
Connecting route 940 links Campo Solagna and Finestron; the route runs between Solagna and San Nazario.
Paths to the Eremo and Località Bresagge
The CAI 944 trail begins in Località Mattecci and leads to the Eremo di San Giorgio and the Cresta di San Giorgio. The Sentiero del Torrion leads downhill through the forest to Località Bresagge, passing the Croce del Torrion on a rocky outcrop overlooking Solagna. The approach to the Eremo from Solagna and the start of CAI 944 in Località Mattecci are therefore two different starting points; the Sentiero del Torrion, on the other hand, leads downhill to Località Bresagge.
Church and art in Solagna
The Chiesa di Santa Giustina is considered the oldest known church in the Canale di Brenta and dates back to the early Christianisation of the area. It was rebuilt around 1850. The church contains a depiction of Saint Justina by Francesco da Ponte il Vecchio.
Industrial and fortification history
Solagna’s history also includes former production and fortification sites. The Filanda Secco was built in 1852 as a silk-spinning mill. In 1895, it was converted into a tobacco warehouse and storage facility. Solagna had two active lime kilns in the 20th century. The restored second lime kiln of La Calcara di Solagna is located near the ruins of the Torre di Solagna. It includes an artificial cave that served as a powder magazine for the quarry. The Ezzelini built the Bastia on the 350-metre-high summit of the Bastia.
The Piccolo Museo 1915-1918 “Roberto Favero”
The Piccolo Museo 1915-1918 “Roberto Favero” displays uniforms, helmets, weapons, insignia, personal belongings and other relics of troops of all nationalities represented in the conflict on the Colli Alti. The museum is located in the Albergo S. Giovanni at Via Collalto 28.
Festival tradition and route to Campese
The Immacolata-Concezione festival in Solagna is associated with the “sagra del mandorlato”. Within the municipality of Solagna, route RV 9 – Brenta Veneto follows the road to Campese.
