Pescocostanzo between Handicrafts, Churches and Snowpark

Pescocostanzo reveals its distinctive character through sacred art, carefully preserved handicraft traditions and various opportunities to experience the surrounding area in winter or along a trail through meadows and woods.

Museums, Churches and Sacred Art

The Museo della Basilica in the Collegiata Santa Maria del Colle preserves goldsmiths’ work, sculptures and sacred furnishings from the church. The Museo del merletto a tombolo adds a different cultural dimension. There, you can see antique lace from private collections and church furnishings, including pieces from the 18th century. The Church of Santa Maria del Suffragio dei Morti complements these themes with a 17th-century portal, a wooden coffered ceiling and a walnut altar completed by Ferdinando Mosca in 1716. The dating of individual architectural elements and furnishings ranges from the 17th to the 18th century. The portal, coffered ceiling and altar are part of a church’s furnishings, while the lace is housed in the Museo del merletto a tombolo.

Historical Traces and Living Handicrafts

The Chiesa di Sant'Antonio Abate originated in the 13th century and stands on the original settlement of Pescocostanzo, called Peschio or Pesco. The former Santa Scolastica monastery was built in 1624 based on a design by Cosimo Fanzago. The town’s cultural character also continues to be shaped by carefully preserved traditional crafts: filigree goldsmithing, bobbin lace, wrought-iron work for household items and wood carving. These handicraft traditions range from metal and textiles to woodworking.

Snowpark and Winter Sports

The Pesco Swup Snowpark is also accessible to the public on foot from the base of the lifts. It has three lines of varying difficulty: an L/M line, an S line and a Jib Line. Scuola Sci Pescocostanzo 3000 offers freeride and freestyle courses. For practical planning, an important restriction should be noted: the ski bus service is exclusively for ski school customers and operates between their accommodations and the ski slopes. Access on foot refers to the base of the lifts; the ski bus service remains a separate offering for ski school customers.

Along Sentiero O1 to Bosco di Sant'Antonio

Sentiero O1 begins in Pescocostanzo and leads across open meadows on the eastern slope of Monte Rotella. After crossing the S.P. 55, the trail reaches Bosco di Sant'Antonio. The forest is considered a biodiversity hotspot and contains centuries-old beeches and maples. The starting point and the road crossing structure the course of the trail.
