Montesilvano between the Coast and the Hills

Montesilvano reveals its distinctive character where the coast meets the hills inland. Eight kilometres of sandy beach, lidos, free beaches and seaside promenades shape the experience. Above Montesilvano, easy walking paths lead to sea views; they connect the coast, villages and the inland landscape. This allows you to combine days by the water with walks and expansive views across the landscape.

Promenade, Pier and Natural Coastal Landscape

A distinctive spot by the sea is the Pontile di Via Finlandia. The wooden pier is located on the Aldo Moro seafront promenade at the level of Via Finlandia and extends out into the Adriatic. It has been fully usable since 2021. The pier is ideal for panoramic walks and sunset photography if you would like to end your day on the coast with an open view across the water.

The mouth of the Saline River adds an area of botanical and ornithological interest to the coastal landscape. Here, you can observe the natural coastal environment. The site particularly appeals to travellers who, in addition to the sandy beach, would like to experience plants, birds and the less urban side of the coast.

Views and History in Montesilvano Colle

The Colle della Vecchia viewpoint offers a 360-degree view of the Adriatic, the seafront promenade, Pescara and the Abruzzo mountains Gran Sasso, Maiella, Morrone and Monti della Laga. The view therefore stretches from the coastline across the city to the mountain landscapes of Abruzzo.

The Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo is located at the most panoramic point of Montesilvano Colle. In the absence of compelling documentary evidence, it can be dated to the beginning of the 13th century on the basis of architectural and historical considerations.

Museo del Treno, Architecture and Street Art

The Museo del Treno at Montesilvano railway station is open to visitors free of charge on Sundays from 10:30 to 12:00. Those interested in culture can combine a museum visit with the railway station and the local history of the railway without having to plan an entire day for it.

The former Colonia Stella Maris was designed in 1936 by the architect Francesco Leoni in the Rationalist style with strong Futurist influences. Its floor plan resembles an aeroplane. A more recent cultural accent is provided by the Pulpa Festival, which has been transforming Montesilvano into an open-air gallery through street art and urban art since 2021.

Getting There and Trip Planning

Montesilvano railway station is served by regional trains on the Adriatic railway line. The journey to Pescara Centrale usually takes 6–8 minutes.
