Pescara between the Adriatic coast, culture and nature

Pescara is a coastal destination on the Adriatic coast with wide, golden beaches. Between the waterfront promenade, museums, historic memorial sites and nature-oriented paths, the city presents a diverse picture. Getting around by the water

The Ponte del Mare is a 466-metre-long cycle and pedestrian bridge connecting the north and south of Pescara. The bridge includes a cycle path and a pedestrian walkway, making it a prominent crossing for anyone wishing to move along the coast on foot or by bicycle. Corso Umberto I also leads into a different form of urban life: the pedestrian zone begins at Piazza Rinascita and is suitable for walks between shops and cafés.

The coastal landscape includes the Nave di Cascella, a Carrara marble sculpture inspired by an ancient galley and located on Pescara’s waterfront promenade near the beach. It is recognised as a place of cultural interest and has been described as a witness to Pescara’s institutional and collective identity. For water sports, Marina di Pescara offers sailing and nautical schools; the necessary equipment can also be rented there. The marina is connected to the airport, railway station and motorway.

Museums and d’Annunzio

The Museo Paparella Treccia Devlet houses a permanent collection of historic majolica from Castelli. The collection comprises 151 majolica artefacts from the 16th to the 19th century. The Museo Civico Basilio Cascella focuses on a different cultural area and preserves more than 600 works by the Cascella family.

At the Museo Casa Natale di Gabriele d’Annunzio, you can see war memorabilia, historic photographs, explanatory panels on military operations and the poet’s general’s uniforms. Gabriele d’Annunzio’s birthplace was declared a national monument in 1927. In the city centre, the IMAGO Museum offers 1,200 square metres of exhibition space for modern, contemporary and photographic art. Its permanent collections are located across several floors.

Aurum was formerly a distillery and is now a cultural centre in the Pineta dannunziana. Events, exhibitions and conferences take place there. The Piazzale Michelucci at Aurum provides space for summer events, exhibitions, open-air evening cinema, concerts and theatre performances. This allows a stay in Pescara to be explored through changing cultural and event venues while retaining the connection to the coastal landscape.

Pine forest and nature observation

The Riserva naturale Pineta dannunziana covers 56 hectares, of which 35 hectares remain in their natural state. The protected area is home to more than 100 bird species, including many migratory birds, as well as plants typical of wetlands. Walks and picnics are possible in the Riserva naturale Pineta dannunziana. The pine forest therefore offers a clear contrast to the beaches, squares and intensively used areas of the city.

Coastal cycling route

The northern section of C1 Bike to Coast is 4.2 kilometres long and has a stated travel time of 15 minutes. The southern section of C1 Bike to Coast connects the Ponte del Mare with Pescara’s border with Francavilla al Mare. One of the main attractions along this southern section is the Porto Turistico.
