Discover Fasano: Egnazia, Old Town and Countryside

The Terre di Fasano are located in central Apulia in the Piana degli ulivi, about 50 km from Bari, Brindisi and Taranto. They can be reached via Bari-Karol Wojtyla International Airport and Salento-Brindisi Airport. Ancient history and historic townscape

Roman remains have been preserved in the archaeological park of Egnazia: the Via Traiana, the Basilica Civile, the cryptoporticus and the baths. The history of the settlement of Egnazia extends from the 16th century BC to the 13th century AD; the area was subsequently abandoned. The historic centre of Fasano is also distinctly characterised by narrow alleys, whitewashed walls, arches and small squares. Corso Garibaldi runs from the central Piazza Ciaia through the expansion of the new Borgo, which developed from the 16th century onwards, towards the sea. The Casa alla fasanese Museum displays everyday objects, implements from the farming tradition and former crafts, as well as contemporary clothing from the late 19th century.

Rock settlements and early history

Lama d’Antico is the largest of Fasano’s rock settlements and has a two-nave rock church. The incomplete Dolmen di Montalbano consists of three large slabs of local limestone that form a rectangular chamber; it probably dates from the Early Bronze Age, roughly from the period between 2000 and 1500 BC.

Zoosafari and Fasanolandia

The Zoosafari-Fasanolandia complex covers 140 hectares of wildlife and amusement park. A visit to Zoosafari begins with a safari during which you drive among the animals in your own vehicle—car, motorhome or bus. Fasanolandia is the amusement park connected to Zoosafari in Fasano and offers rides, shows, exhibitions and museums. The two areas allow you to weigh animal observation and entertainment separately.

Natural environment and routes through the countryside

The Dune Costiere Regional Natural Park is a protected regional park of about 1,000 hectares and stretches from Torre Canne to Torre San Leonardo. The Canale di Pirro is about 12 kilometres long and 500 to 1,500 metres wide; known as a polje, it is a landform created by surface karstification. It can be explored by bicycle or on foot. The route of about 3 km between Laureto and Cocolicchio can be covered by car, bicycle or on foot. La Scamiciata on 2 June

La Scamiciata features a large parade of performers commemorating the historic victory of the inhabitants of Fasano over a Turkish incursion on 2 June 1678. The event takes place on 2 June.
