Ostuni between a white hill and the Adriatic Coast

Ostuni reveals two very different sides: The historic centre, known as Città Bianca, consists of a maze of picturesque lanes and whitewashed houses on a hill with sweeping views. This distinctive town centre faces a coastal landscape. Ostuni mare is the coastal area of the municipality of Ostuni located along the Adriatic Coast. The coastline stretches for almost 20 kilometres and is characterised above all by an unspoilt coast with Mediterranean maquis, dunes and nature reserves. The beaches of Spiaggia di Monticelli, Spiaggia Rosa Marina and Spiaggia Lido Tiziana are located nearby.

Architecture and a long history

A notable cultural landmark is the Concattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, which was declared a national monument in 1902. The Museo Civico Di Ostuni is also located in the immediate vicinity of Ostuni. Its prehistoric section displays casts of two Palaeolithic burials, including Ostuni 1, the Donna di Ostuni, and preserves the original remains of Ostuni 1. Palaeolithic refers to the Old Stone Age. Palazzo Siccoda and the Monastero Delle Benedettine are also located nearby.

Traces of early history and a cycle path

In the Grotte di Agnano in the Parco Archeologico Santa Maria di Agnano, about two kilometres from Ostuni, rites and cults dedicated to a female figure took place over a period of around 30,000 years. This connects a specific site with an exceptionally long cultural and historical timespan. The ancient Via Traiana also crosses the Ostuni area. Today, it is signposted as the long-distance cycle route Bicitalia Itinerary No. 6, giving the destination a clear connection with cycling.

Festivals and planned excursions

The Cavalcata di Sant'Oronzo is a festival in Ostuni that takes place every year from 25 August to 27 August. If you would like to visit Parco Avventura Ciuchino Birichino, you must make a reservation no later than the day before. Parco Rimembranze is located near Ostuni and adds to the range of destinations for a stay with varied daily interests.

Nature watching by the water

At Torre Pozzella, you can enter the water from large rocks by the sea or from small beaches. Crabs, octopuses and small fish can be observed among the rocks. When choosing a hotel in Ostuni, it is therefore worth determining your preferred focus: Città Bianca and the cultural destinations offer historical impressions, Ostuni mare stands for coast and nature, while Torre Pozzella allows for specific observation by the water.
