Between the Castle, Church Art and Ancient Traces

Deliceto combines impressive historic sites with a landscape that reveals itself step by step. A special starting point for exploring the past is the Castello Normanno-Svevo-Angioino. In its underground section is a Langobardic “Domus” measuring around 50 metres in length, also known as the “Castra Longobarda”, which dates back to the 9th century. The site therefore takes you deep into history, without having to limit yourself to a single attraction.

Religious art is also one of Deliceto’s important facets. The Chiesa Madre del Santissimo Salvatore houses the painting “La Pentecoste”, dated 1639. The Museo ecclesiastico di Deliceto is located in the former oratory of the Chiesa di Sant’Anna e Morti. Beneath the Santuario della Consolazione, there is also the Grotta del Beato Felice da Corsano. These sites offer different historical and spiritual points of reference for your exploration.

Traditions with Fixed Annual Dates

The Falò di San Mattia is part of the local character. It is a thousand-year-old fire tradition in Deliceto and was recently added by the Apulia Region to the regional register of the most important and longest-standing fire rituals. Another annual tradition is the Presepe Vivente di Deliceto. The 45th edition was scheduled for 26, 27 and 28 December 2025. For this edition, a ticket was planned that included the nativity scene route and food and wine tastings. It is precisely through such specific dates that the strong connection between culture, religious references and regional food culture in Deliceto becomes apparent.
