Sant'Isidoro between the Bay and the Marine Protected Area

The coast of Sant'Isidoro lies within the Porto Cesareo Marine Protected Area. Its distinctive character comes from the alternation of rock and sand: at Sant'Isidoro, the rocky coast transitions into fine sand in a wind-protected bay. A small island off Sant'Isidoro helps protect the bay from the wind and can be reached by swimming. This combination of coastline, bay and island defines the maritime character of the town.

Beach, Dunes and Clear Water

Sant'Isidoro's beach is characterised by very white sand dunes. The sea around Sant'Isidoro is transparent and fed by freshwater streams emerging from the karst subsoil. Torre Sant'Isidoro was completely rebuilt in 1622; the work was completed in 1624. In the municipality of Nardò, the tower stands less than 50 metres from the sea at an elevation of 3 metres. To the south, Torre Sant'Isidoro is within sight of Torre Inserraglio, and to the north, of Torre Squillace. The dates link the tower to a clearly dated rebuilding phase, while the two lines of sight extend the view beyond its immediate surroundings.

A guided kayaking and canoeing tour begins at Torre Sant'Isidoro. It starts with an introductory course in basic kayaking and canoeing techniques.
