Torre Saracena between the coast, pine forest and wetlands

Torre Saracena is a destination for travelers who want to combine the coast, nature observation and manageable walking routes. Around the town, the landscape extends from the coastal path with views of the distinctive Due Sorelle rock to the small Brunese freshwater stream, which passes through a pine forest and supports wildlife and wetlands along its course. Coast, pine forest and Brunese

Access to the beach at Torre dell’Orso leads through a pine forest designated by the European Union as a Site of Community Importance. The route therefore connects the beach with a landscape that consists of more than just the coast. In the Brunese SIC there is a wetland whose water is channelled to the sea through an artificial canal; the present watercourse runs from Torre Saracena to the beach at Torre dell’Orso. This connection between the watercourse and the coast is one of the area’s distinctive landscape features.

Rocks and caves along the coast

The rocks and caves in the surrounding area provide another focal point. In Sant’Andrea, the arch-shaped rock is regarded as a symbol of the coastal town. The coastal caves of Torre dell’Orso and the Due Sorelle rock provide a habitat for distinctive migratory birds. This draws attention not only to the geological form of the coast, but also to its importance as a habitat.

An easy walking route with natural pools

In the vicinity of Torre Saracena, there is the 3.1-kilometre easy walking route “Balade Due Sorelle et grotte dell’Acqua Dolce”. The route runs along the Adriatic coast and features natural pools. Its length and rating help you classify it as a manageable stage in your travel plans, for example if you would like to include a coastal walk among other activities.

Seasonal bus connections

Torre Saracena is a stop on the summer Mare-in-Bus service. The daily north–south route operates from 24 June to 24 September along the Adriatic coastal road. Terra Mare in Bus connects Melendugno and Borgagne with the seaside towns and operates in July and August. Mare in Bus also connects the seaside towns of Melendugno along the Adriatic coastal road. In addition, Melendugno is served by Salento in Bus route 101 between Lecce, Torre dell’Orso and Otranto.

For Torre Saracena, work to restore the central square was scheduled for 2026.
