Torre Suda combines a clear connection to the coast with natural features, buildings and events that give the town a range of different facets. As a traveller, this gives you a choice of themes: you can combine rocky coastal landscapes, religious traditions, nearby beaches and architectural heritage. Your choice of accommodation in Torre Suda may depend on whether you want to place the coastal character, the buildings or the celebrations at the centre of your stay.

Coast, defence and rare nature

The Torre di Torre Suda was part of a coastal defence system that served to monitor the coast and protect the hinterland. Torre Suda lies within the habitat of the very rare Salento endemic plant Anthyllis hermanniae (Spinapollici). Marina di Torre Suda offers rocky beaches. Together, these three aspects show that Torre Suda has both a distinctive coastal character and natural and architectural points of interest.

Beaches in the surrounding area

There are other beaches in the area around Torre Suda: Punta della Suina, Samsara Beach, Zeus Beach and Spiaggia Baia Verde. This gives you several destinations to choose from when planning your days, without requiring any particular type of beach.

Church and castles

The Parrocchia B.V.M. Maris Stella was built through a community initiative around the 1950s. The area around Torre Suda also includes Il Castello, a castle, Palazzo Pirelli, a palazzo, Castel Sant'Angelo, a castle, and Castello Angevine-Aragonese, a castle. If you would like to alternate between the coast and architectural heritage, these themes can be considered side by side when planning your trip.

Celebrations on 14 and 15 August

The civil and religious celebrations in honour of B.V.M. Maris Stella take place on 14 and 15 August. On the first day of the celebrations, a procession passes through the marina; the statue of the Virgin Mary is carried on a boat pushed by hand by worshippers. On the second day of the celebrations, fireworks take place at midnight. This clear two-part structure helps you plan a stay featuring religious festivities and different evening experiences.

Local information and another event highlight

For orientation on site, the IAT tourist information office in Torre Suda distributes free information material about initiatives in Torre Suda and the wider area of the municipality of Racale. This is particularly useful if, in addition to Torre Suda, you would like to include information about the rest of the municipality in your plans.

At the Sagra della Carne Arrosto, live music was scheduled every evening. For travellers who want to include events alongside beaches and architectural heritage, this occasion adds another musical highlight to the celebrations in honour of B.V.M. Maris Stella.
