Bisignano: Sacred Art, Circular Trail and Regional Destinations

Bisignano is a destination for travellers who want to combine sacred art, historic architecture, a circular trail and local festival culture. The town features specific examples of each side by side: the Concattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta displays architectural forms from the Norman period. Its reconstruction in 1056 presumably took place over an older Lombard church. The Chiesa di San Domenico dates from the 15th century and was part of a Dominican monastery founded in 1475.

The Cammino dei Frati Santi offers an independent way to experience Bisignano via a circular trail with three stages. The route begins and ends at the Chiesa e Convento di Sant’Umile and includes the Grotta della Preghiera as an intermediate stop. The Palio del Principe offers another approach to local history: during the historic procession, the route runs for approximately three kilometres through Bisignano’s old town and neighbourhoods. The Palio del Principe takes place every year on the last Sunday in June. It includes convivial neighbourhood festivals where traditional local products are offered for tasting.

The landscape is also part of the town’s character. The Torrente Duglia runs through the Bisignano area and offers a nature trail.
