Mountain landscape and trails through the Sila

Camigliatello Silano combines the immediate proximity of the lifts to Monte Curcio and the cross-country ski trails with a landscape that can be explored along the Strada delle Vette. This road runs through pine and beech forests. Numerous squirrels live in the forests around the town. This allows you to include different interests in activities in the forests and on the mountain in your travel planning without equating the individual experiences.

Monte Curcio in winter and summer

Monte Curcio is the focus of winter sports. The Tasso–Monte Curcio cable car connects the station in the Tasso district at 1,380 metres above sea level with the Monte Curcio mountain station at 1,786 metres; it operates in both winter and summer. Several circular cross-country ski trails begin at Monte Curcio, at an altitude of 1,768 metres, and the mountain can be reached by lift from Camigliatello.

Historic railway across the Sila

Another way to experience the landscape is the Treno della Sila. It runs from Camigliatello Silano to San Nicola–Silvana Mansio with a historic steam locomotive and carriages from the early 20th century. The train reaches a 950 mm narrow-gauge station at an altitude of over 1,400 metres, which is described as Europe's highest narrow-gauge railway station. Here, railway history, technology and the altitude of the Sila come together in a tangible visitor experience.

Nature at Lago Cecita

Near Camigliatello Silano, at Lago Cecita, the Centro Visita Cupone combines environmental education with nature trails, wildlife observation points, a museum and a geological garden. Lago Cecita can be reached from several locations by car or on foot via unpaved roads. A road leads to the station of the Treno della Sila; the entrance to the station is accessible to all visitors.

Museums, residence and church

La Nave della Sila is a museum on the grounds of Old Calabria Torre Camigliati in Camigliatello Silano. The visit includes large-format photographs, a narrative voice and songs of Italian emigration. Torre Camigliati is an 18th-century baronial residence. In the parish church of Santi Roberto e Biagio, the walls and liturgical areas are designed with pine wood; it also features an elaborate apse mosaic by Father Ugolino da Belluno.

Getting there and theatre route

To get there, continue by bus from the regional railway station in Cosenza to Camigliatello and San Giovanni in Fiore. Service staff assist passengers with disabilities when boarding the Treno della Sila. Camigliatello Silano is also associated with a nature-themed theatre route about Calabrian brigandage. It is performed by reservation in the forests of Camigliatello Silano and San Giovanni in Fiore, as well as near Lakes Arvo and Cecita, with popular songs and tarantella dances.
