Frascineto is a destination for travelers who want to experience Italian culture not only through façades, but also through language, religious traditions and living customs. Frascineto and the hamlet of Eianina are located in Pollino National Park. Here, Albanian heritage meets mountain landscapes, allowing you to combine cultural experiences with nature-related activities.

Albanian and Byzantine Heritage

Frascineto and Eianina preserve the Albanian language and the Greek-Byzantine rite. A central place for engaging with this tradition is the Museo delle Icone e della Tradizione Bizantina. It is dedicated to Byzantine art, spirituality, history and liturgy, includes an indoor and an outdoor tour, and displays icons dating from the 15th to the 20th century. The Museo del Costume Albanese displays miniature traditional costumes of the Albanian-speaking communities of southern Italy. At the Museo Etnografico Arbëresh, you can see objects from the material everyday culture of bygone times; a traditional loom is used there to explain textile processing in practice.

The Chiesa Parrocchiale di Santa Maria Assunta features a Greek-Byzantine iconostasis and a Byzantine altar beneath a brick-built domed canopy. The Chiesa di San Pietro dates from the 10th century and is a Byzantine national monument with three naves; it also has the unusual orientation of facing west instead of east.

Customs and Spiritual Places

In Frascineto, the Vallje are celebrated on the Tuesday after Easter as traditional Albanian dances and songs. North of Frascineto lies the Eremo della Madonna di Lassù, built into the mountain rock. It once contained cells for Basilian monks. On the second Sunday after Easter, worshippers from Frascineto and Eianina make a votive visit to the hermitage.

Pollino Landscapes and Trails

The surrounding area offers a range of landscapes to incorporate into active travel plans. The Frascineto-Eianina rock face in Pollino National Park has a climbing wall equipped for sport climbing. A circular trail through the „Piccole Dolomiti di Frascineto“ begins at an elevation of about 450 metres on the edge of Eianina, a hamlet of Frascineto; the area is designated Geosite 15 of the Pollino mountain range. After the concrete mule track on the western slope of Timpa di Crivo, the circular trail continues uphill along a steep path. Route SI-C U33-B runs through Eianina to the sports field in Frascineto.

Local Wine

The Festa del Vino in Frascineto is also part of the region's identity. Local wines are sampled there on the first weekend of August. This includes DOC Pollino, a wine made from the Magliocco Canino and Aglianico grape varieties.
