Marina di Mandatoriccio: Coast, Local History and Excursions

Marina di Mandatoriccio between the Sea and the Hinterland

Marina di Mandatoriccio lies on the coast between Capo Trionto and Punta Alice. The town combines a distinctive beach area with insights into the history of Mandatoriccio. The Maracaibo Beach Club is located in Marina di Mandatoriccio on the Ionian coast. Its beach is characterised by fine, golden sand and clean, crystal-clear sea.

At Spiaggia di Marina di Mandatoriccio, the beach consists of sand and small pebbles, particularly along the shore. In places, it is very wide. The sea is crystal-clear and clear; its shades range from blue to dark blue. The seabed slopes gently towards the sea. Spiaggia also forms one continuous beach with Spiaggia di Marina di Pietrapaola.

The coastal atmosphere can also be experienced at close hand: along the seafront promenade of Marina di Mandatoriccio, there are ice-cream parlours, snack bars and cocktail bars. With its lights, music and summer atmosphere, it is suitable for evening strolls late into the night. At Spiaggia di Marina di Mandatoriccio, you will also find bars, restaurants and bathing establishments.

Tuareg Beach is located in a Site of Community Importance. There is a restaurant, a pizzeria and a rosticceria, offering meals, aperitifs and tastings of local specialities.

Castello, Chiesa Madre and Local Craftsmanship

The Castello of Mandatoriccio and the Chiesa Madre provide distinctive historical accents in the townscape. The Castello features a Spanish-style architectural design and has a drawbridge and four bastions. The Chiesa Madre features architecture in the Neapolitan style of the Chiesa di San Francesco.

In spring, historic transhumance routes in Mandatoriccio led livestock and flocks of sheep to the Sila Plateau, and in autumn to the Marina. Since the beginning of the 20th century, local woodcarvers in the Mandatoriccio area have made pipes. These two aspects draw attention to seasonal routes and craft traditions that contribute to the character of the town alongside the beach experience.

Forest Walks, Water Experiences and Getting There

The Sila Mountains, with opportunities for walks in the forests, are located in the surroundings of Marina di Mandatoriccio. For an excursion with plenty of water, Acquapark Odissea 2000 in Rossano Calabro offers large swimming pools with slides, toboggans and water games for children and adults.

Marina di Mandatoriccio can be reached by train. Travellers can get off at Pietrapaola or Mandatoriccio railway stations, which are conveniently located near the Marina. When choosing a hotel or other accommodation, you can therefore determine your personal priorities: the coastal atmosphere, historical impressions, forest walks and travelling by train lead to different plans.

Local traditions also give a stay its own particular focus. Manicotto is a traditional sweet from Mandatoriccio; its recipe is passed down from generation to generation. The event La Notte di San Lorenzo takes place every year on 10 August at Lido Re Artù. The sweet and the event thus represent two different ways of experiencing the town: culinary tradition and a recurring date in the annual calendar.
