The settlement was founded in January 1178 under the name “Casale delle Fontanelle”. One particularly defining expression of local tradition is A Juta. Its traditional expression includes music, dances, tammorre and paranze. On 12 September each year, pilgrims gather in Ospedaletto Dʼalpinolo and, during A Juta, set off on the so-called “sagliuta”, the ascent to the Santuario di Montevergine.

The CAI Sentiero Italia SI-C S10-B route descends to the locality of Ospedaletto Dʼalpinolo and from there continues to the historic centre of Avellino at an elevation of 348 metres.
Ospedaletto Dʼalpinolo is located on the SS 374, the connecting road between Avellino and the Valle Caudina. In addition, Air-Campania line 22-AV connects the town with the centre of Avellino. The “Ospedaletto, Villa Comunale” bus stop is just a few steps from the entrance to Parco Avventura Montevergine. Festivals, specialities and local flavours
Between 11 and 13 September 2025, the more than one-hundred-year-old Festone “A Juta a Montevergine” in Ospedaletto Dʼalpinolo featured a procession with horses and festively decorated carriages, arts and crafts stalls, street performers and food stalls. The Sagra della Fragola also featured food stalls offering strawberries and other typical regional specialities. The 2025 Festa della Castagna del Prete complemented this programme of events with chestnut dishes, other regional specialities, local wine and chestnut beer.
The culinary profile includes Torrone di Ospedaletto Dʼalpinolo in a classic version as well as a version filled with Pan di Spagna. Castagna del prete is a local chestnut product whose distinctive cooking method is traditionally attributed to a monk. Local flavours therefore range from confectionery to chestnut dishes and seasonal festival offerings.
