Museums and Historical Traces
The Museo della PubblicitĂ , del Packaging e del Commercio contains around 700 advertising, procurement and trade objects. These include promotional items, signs, packaging, catalogues and other advertising materials dating from the late 19th century to the present day.
Since 2005, the Museo degli Orologi da Torre has housed a collection of 50 mechanisms for clock towers. The mechanisms date from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. The museum is housed in a 19th-century palatial building. Technical objects and a historic building thus come together here.
The Modern has eight rooms serving as a library, newspaper library and archive.
The Torre Provenzale dates from the 14th century, was formerly a prison and was later used as the bell tower of the Chiesa di San Marco Evangelista. The Pieve di San Rocco was built in the 17th century by a few survivors of the plague outside the town centre, at the site where the local hospital is believed to have stood. Its portal is finely hand-carved from local stone.
Trails, Water and Panoramic Views
The Belvedere Mons. Michele Marinella was formerly called Belvedere Grazionella and offers a wide view to the south over the medieval town, the surrounding landscape and the mountains.
The Via dei Tre Boschetti is used for running, trekking and cycling. The rural church of Santa Barbara is a 16th-century building that was restored and reopened for worship in the 2000s.
On the hill near Santa Barbara, remains of the old village of San Severo are still visible. Parco Ettore Cosomati has a nature trail along the Torrente Tammarecchia. The Torrente Tammarecchia is also the watercourse where the Cascata Ripa is located.
The Cascata Ripa is located on the same stream. It can be reached via a scenic path created in December 2020.
Croccantino and Local Festival Tradition
Croccantino from San Marco dei Cavoti is a typical specialty of San Marco. Its coating consists of fine dark chocolate, while the centre is made of almonds, hazelnuts and sugar. At the XXI. Festa del Torrone e del Croccantino, Croccantino could be sampled at food stalls. As part of this festival, guided tours of the producing companies were offered, showing how Croccantino is made. The festival thus combined tasting the finished Croccantino with tours showing its production at the companies that make it.
