Monte Pendolo and the Monti Lattari

The Croce Monte Pendolo is located at an altitude of 618 metres in the heart of the Monti Lattari. From there, the view extends towards the islands of Ischia and Procida and across the landscapes of the Campi Flegrei and the coast. On the Sentiero del Monte San Michele, views open up over the Conca di Pimonte, the Piana del Sarno and Mount Vesuvius.

Geology and Natural Landscapes

The Monti Lattari are predominantly characterised by limestone and dolomite geology; karst features include sinkholes, caves and surface erosion. Large areas still retain a high degree of natural character. In the 1980s, around 850 native or naturalised species or taxonomic units were recorded, approximately five per cent of them endemic. This gives the landscape a clear focus for nature enthusiasts.

Hiking Trails with Specific Destinations

The Sentiero Belvedere di Monte Pendolo begins in the centre of Pimonte, near the municipal information point. The Pino Zappino trail CAI 332B connects the hilltop of Pino, at an altitude of 575 metres, with the outskirts of Pimonte. At the ford on the Pino Zappino trail CAI 332B, 450 metres from the starting point, there is a cave with a statue of the Madonna. This provides different trail references for your planning: the town centre, hilltop, outskirts and a religious destination.

The Le Tese di Pimonte trail CAI 334 leads to the church of the parish of Beata Maria Vergine Immacolata di Tralia in the Tralia district of Pimonte. The Sentiero della Valle Lavatoio runs through the Valle Lavatoio and joins trail 332 shortly before the derelict San Giacomo chapel.

Churches, Castles and Local History

The Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie in Pino dates back to 1317. Castrum Pini is a medieval complex hidden in the vegetation of the Monti Lattari. Castello di Belvedere was built in the 10th century as part of a larger defensive project of the Republic of Amalfi. Today, outdoor events are held at Castello di Belvedere, including lyric concerts and folk events. A salvaged wooden sculpture of Christ was originally located on the pulpit of the Church of San Michele Arcangelo in Pimonte until the 1980 earthquake.

Olive Oil, Wine and Milk

The Olive Oil Experience in Pimonte includes a walk through the centuries-old olive groves on Monte Pendolo. It also includes a visit to an olive mill and a tasting of EVO oil from Pimonte with local bread and traditional products. The Wine Experience explores vineyards and terraces in the Monti Lattari together with staff from local farms and ends with an on-site tasting: local wines are served with typical products from Pimonte's culinary tradition. During the Milk Experience, you can take part in the production stages from milk coagulation to stretching the mozzarella and taste fresh products.

A Fixed Date in the Annual Calendar

The Feast of San Michele Arcangelo in Pimonte is celebrated every year on 29 September. The celebrations include traditional processions, religious services and cultural activities.
