Brento between Monte Adone and the Via degli Dei

Brento lies at the foot of Monte Adone. The mountain reaches 655 m and is the highest rocky massif in the Contrafforte Pliocenico nature reserve. This location shapes the character of the place: here, you experience a landscape where rocks, paths and traces of cultural history are closely interconnected. For an individual trip to Italy, Brento therefore offers different points of connection without committing you to a single experience.

Hiking with different trail profiles

The Anello di Monte Adone circular trail leads from Brento to Monte Adone at an elevation of 654 m. Two ascent routes lead from Brento to the mountain. They allow for a circular hike starting and ending in Brento; one route is steeper, while the other is gentler. If you want to plan your hike according to your personal pace and preferred ascent, this route offers a clear choice between two different profiles.

The Via degli Dei also runs through this landscape. Brento, Badolo and Monte Adone are among the places along the long-distance hiking trail connecting Bologna with Florence. The route crosses the Contrafforte Pliocenico area around Monte Adone and Brento. As a result, the surrounding area offers both a striking rocky massif and a long-distance connection between two Italian cities.

Rocks, a cave and historic sites

At the foot of Monte Adone's rock face in the Setta Valley lies the Grotta delle Fate. The cave is a narrow, 50 m-long fissure in the rock, interrupted by fallen boulders. The area between Brento and Monte Adone also contains rock strata. Those who perceive the landscape not only as a view but also through its geological forms will find specific features here along the foot of the mountain.

Another route connection is formed by stage 5 of the Linea Gotica. It runs from Brento at an elevation of 478 m to Poggiolo at an elevation of 421 m. The two stated elevations mark the endpoints of this stage and complement the routes around Monte Adone with another trail of its own character.

The history of Brento

The settlement of Brento is of Roman origin and probably even older. In the 6th century, a Byzantine fort stood on the panoramic plateau of Monte Castellazzo. At the foot of the mountain toward Savena, the few remains of the ancient Church of Sant'Ansano lie in the forest. These places give the surrounding area historical depth and broaden the perspective beyond the hiking trails.

The new church of Brento was built in 1959 by Padre Olinto Marella together with the nearby Casa del Pellegrino. The Casa del Pellegrino was established on land donated by benefactors for a community of young people; this property had been entrusted to Don Olinto Marella. For your travel planning, this connects the history of the place with specific buildings and their respective relationship to Brento.
