Scuola: Badolo, Monte Adone and the Via degli Dei

If you are coming from the Porrettana road towards Rioveggio, take Via Badolo at the level of the hamlet of Scuola. This road takes you to the circular hiking trail near Badolo, which starts and ends at the Chiesa di Badolo, Via Badolo 46 in Sasso Marconi.

Hiking between Badolo and Monte Adone

Badolo is a stage on the Via degli Dei. The equipped trail passes through the landscapes of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and is also accessible to less experienced hikers. A hike to the summit of Monte Adone can begin in Brento; two possible routes allow for a circular tour, including a steeper and a gentler option. When planning the summit loop, you can therefore choose the route based on the different gradients.

Monte Adone is 655 metres high and forms the highest rocky massif in the Contrafforte Pliocenico Nature Reserve. The area also preserves traces of the Gothic Line. Its network of trails includes gravel paths and often old routes leading to historic sites, summits and the scenic ridge. The ridge, the summits and the historic sites are different destinations within the trail network; the Grotta delle Fate is a separate landscape feature in the form of a narrow rock fissure. At the foot of the rock face of Monte Adone, the Grotta delle Fate lies in the Setta Valley as a narrow, 50-metre-long rock fissure.

Natural environment and regional culture

The Natura 2000 site IT4050012 includes the Contrafforte Pliocenico regional nature reserve; Sasso Marconi is one of the municipalities concerned. The Via dei Santuari crosses the nature reserve between Commenda and Battedizzo and connects Bologna with Prato.

The Fira di Sdaz in Pontecchio is a festival of farming culture with a tradition spanning more than 300 years. In the Borgo di Colle Ameno, an Aula della Memoria preserves evidence and documents relating to the history of Colle Ameno. The two places therefore focus on different aspects of culture.

Birdwatching and practical information

For birdwatching, the Oasi Naturalistica di San Gherardo offers opportunities to observe birds. Access to this oasis is only possible as part of guided visits. Birdwatching and hiking therefore have different access conditions.
