Monterenzio between the Sillaro and Idice rivers

Monte Bibele: Archaeology in the landscape

In the Monte Bibele area, the guided visitor experience includes the reconstructed Etruscan-Celtic settlement of Pianella di Monte Savino, with reconstructed dwellings dating from the 5th to the 3rd century BC. The reconstructions make the settlement tangible as a spatial historical experience. The focus for you is therefore on culture, the character of the site and an ancient settlement.

At Monte Bibele, a numbered trail with information panels and reconstructions leads through the ancient settlement. The panels and reproduced elements combine the route through the landscape with visible explanations. If you prefer to explore history while walking rather than exclusively indoors, this trail provides an alternative way to do so.

In the Monte Bibele area, a woodland walk leads to the Celtic necropolis and the Etruscan-Italic votive deposit of Monte Tamburino. Trekking is also possible there on the ancient Via della Carrozza. The walk combines a nature trail with two archaeological destinations, while the Via della Carrozza places the historic trail connection at the centre.

Historic routes for trekking

The restored historic Flaminia Minor route can be followed as a trekking route and runs mostly along CAI Trail 801. The combination of the historic route name and the designation CAI Trail 801 helps you incorporate different hiking interests into your planning.

Archaeology at the Museo Civico Archeologico Luigi Fantini

The Museo Civico Archeologico Luigi Fantini displays materials recovered during excavations of the Etruscan-Celtic settlement of Monte Bibele.

The Museo Civico Archeologico Luigi Fantini also includes a life-size reconstruction of the wooden structure of a house from the Pianella di Monte Savino settlement.

The Salse del Dragone in Sassuno

In the Sassuno district of Monterenzio, the Salse del Dragone consist of small hills from which small amounts of clay emerge under the pressure of methane pockets.

Mountain biking, wind farm and family experience

In the surroundings of Monterenzio, the Casoni di Romagna wind farm offers an approximately 4 km-long white gravel road. You can walk there among the large installations; the road can also be ridden by mountain bike. This adds another opportunity to the historic trails for combining physical activity with experiencing the landscape.

Bimbolandia at Acquapark della Salute Più is a thermal park for children with games in the thermal pool, climbing activities, numerous slides and an attraction in the form of Noah's Ark.
