Historic centre and defining buildings
Luzzara combines distinctive buildings with the special landscape along the Po. In the historic centre, the old arcades and the Civic Tower are among the defining features. The tower is 55 metres high and is considered the tallest tower in the province. In 1780, the Civic Tower was completed with a dome topped by a cross bearing the Luccio symbol. Another important building is the Palazzo della Macina. It was built around 1481 as the former palace of the Gonzaga, the lords of Luzzara. Above the main entrance, the façade features a Gonzaga coat of arms made of polychrome ceramics, created by Luca della Robbia. Details like these make the palace interesting for visitors who want to understand Italian architecture not only through major historical periods, but also through materials, coats of arms and the history of local rule.
The parish church of San Giorgio is part of the town’s religious and cultural history. It represents more than twelve centuries of religious, artistic and historical heritage. The Luzzara floodplain is also home to the River Park adventure park. It is located in a forest with centuries-old oak trees and offers treetop acrobatic courses at different heights and difficulty levels. The activities are aimed at children, teenagers and adults. A former gravel pit adds another element to this landscape: the former Cava Luccio is a restored former gravel pit; its entrance is located by the picnic area on Viale Po. Luzzara also offers a clearly defined option for planning a cycling tour. From Luzzara, a cycle path follows the Po to Brescello and is approximately 25 kilometres long.
