Churches and historic townscapes
The Pieve di Santa Maria Nascente was built in 1824, blessed on Christmas Eve 1830 and consecrated in 1854. The Chiesetta di Santo Stefano stands on the hill above the hamlet of Clama. The Chiesetta di San Leonardo, near the village of Sottocastello, is documented by a record from the late 13th century. Inside is a 19th-century altarpiece depicting Saints Bernardino of Siena, Leonard of Noblac and Simon the Apostle venerating the Madonna and Child.
The Chiesetta di San Giorgio near Aplia Superiore was rebuilt after the 1976 earthquake and reconsecrated in 2013. Its façades bear the names of the residents of Artegna who fell in both world wars; the history of Aquileia is also depicted there. Another townscape is preserved along the central Via Villa: a long sequence of buildings and several architecturally significant palazzi preserve the historic street configuration. Artegna can therefore be explored not only through individual buildings, but also through the layout of its streets and the different layers of time.
Colle di San Martino
On Colle di San Martino, the sightseeing route includes the monumental remains of a cistern dating from the 5th to 6th century, the ring walls and other uncovered elements of the Late Antique and medieval fortified settlement. The monumental complex includes the Pieve and Castello di Savorgnan. In addition, the Chiesetta di San Martino in Artegna dates from the 16th century. The hill thus brings together several clearly distinguishable historical traces, from the Late Antique settlement to later sacred buildings.
Waterfall and easy trails
The multi-level La Turbine waterfall can be viewed in its entirety from its base. The path also leads to its upper edge. For an easier hike, the Artegna route runs from the town centre along a wooded path on the edge of the village to the centuries-old Mont washhouse on the Clama stream. The two destinations offer different highlights: La Turbine introduces a striking landscape feature, while the route to Mont connects the trail with a preserved element of local everyday life.
Artegna as a starting point for cycling and hiking routes
The “Osoppo and Gemona Plain cycle circuit” starts in Artegna. From Buja, it continues across the plain towards Artegna. A hiking trail also leads from the village of Artegna to Mount Faeit.

The Festa del norcino is considered one of the region’s oldest Friulian traditions in Artegna.
