Accommodation in Socchieve
Socchieve combines sacred art, mountain trails and landscapes in the Val Tagliamento. The Pieve di Castoia, dedicated to Santa Maria Annunziata, stands on a hill between Nonta and Socchieve and overlooks the middle course of the Tagliamento. It is considered a symbol of Christianity in the valley. There is a car park at the foot of the ascent to the Pieve.

Churches and Art between Socchieve and Viaso
The Church of San Martino is a national monument and features an important fresco cycle by Gianfrancesco da Tolmezzo dating from 1493. Viaso is also home to the Church of San Giovanni Battista. It dates from the 15th century and features a Gothic window and a polygonal presbytery.
Walking Trails and Signposted Mountain Hikes
The Dalla Pieve di Castoia agli Stavoli route is a walking trail where Socchieve’s history and nature can be experienced. It crosses the Lumiei via a concrete ford. After this crossing, the route follows the signs for the Cammino delle Pievi and CAI Trail No. 239. The Alta Valle del Tagliamento route leads to the Church of San Martino in Socchieve.
The Anello del Monte Nolia begins in Feltrone and circles Monte Nolia via the Stavoli della Congregazione. It initially runs through mixed woodland above Feltrone, then reaches Provincial Road 35 in the Conca di Pani area. From Socchieve’s smallest hamlet, the circular trail offers views across the Val Tagliamento as far as Tolmezzo and Monte Amariana. The Anello also includes an inscription carved into a stone, linked to a peace agreement between Voltois and Feltrone over a border dispute.
Ascent to Casera Chiarzo
The Salita a Casera Chiarzo is approximately 2 kilometres long, climbs around 380 metres in elevation and takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. The route is part of the CAI trail network and is well signposted along its entire length as Trail No. 235. Casera Chiarzo has a stone fireplace, a table and two benches in the main room. Outside, there is a large table made of logs.
Traditional Crafts and Nature-Focused Days
In Socchieve, trekking is a holiday activity associated with a quiet, nature-focused setting. The Rassegna Carnica: Arte, Cultura, Lavoro is an exhibition and market for traditional mountain crafts and work using more recent techniques. The event takes place in summer between July and August and has been held for more than 30 years.
