The Raibl International Geomineral Park with its former mine is located in Cave del Predil. The park lies at an altitude of 900 metres above sea level between Monte Re, Monte Cinque Punte and Lago di Raibl.

Mining history in Cave del Predil
Mining activity in Cave del Predil began in ancient Roman times and ended in 1991. In addition to the actual extraction facilities, the mining site includes a former storage building, the offices of the mining company and two identical workers’ houses.
Visitors accompanied by a guide can take a tour of the former mine. During the guided tours, explanations are provided of how the ore was extracted. Miniera Lab complements the mine visit with a documentary tour that makes its history and special features easy to understand. In Cave del Predil, “Viaggio al Centro della Terra” is also an immersive multimedia adventure.
Those interested in culture will find two historical themes in Cave del Predil: the former mine and the Museo Storico Militare “Alpi Giulie”.
Museums, tower and culture of remembrance
The Museo Storico Militare “Alpi Giulie” covers the period from the Napoleonic Wars to the Second World War. The collections on the First World War show the front from both the perspective of the Italian army and that of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
The bell tower of the Chiesa di Sant'Anna has a square shaft with loopholes, clock faces and a curved, shingle-covered roof finial.
The ossuary at the cemetery of Cave del Predil preserves the mortal remains of more than 300 Austro-Hungarian soldiers who fell in battle, including many members of the 7th Regiment from Klagenfurt. In general, the ossuary can only be viewed from the outside. Access to the interior is mentioned only for All Saints’ Day, 2 November, and 4 December, the feast day of Saint Barbara.
Lakeside and trail through the forest
Lago Predil is suitable for swimming in summer, and a walking path leads around its shores. Lago di Raibl is located a few kilometres from the centre of Cave del Predil. During the warm season, it offers relaxation on its shores or at two equipped bathing facilities.
