Friulian Traditions and Sacred Details
The Gruppo Folcloristico Pasian di Prato was founded in 1966 and preserves Friulian traditions. In its performances, music, dances and songs convey the atmosphere and setting of old Friuli.
In the church of Pasian di Prato, seven stained-glass windows decorate the side aisle; they depict the seven sacraments. Visitors interested in culture can choose between different focuses, from folkloric performances to sacred details in the church.
Market and Cuisine with Meadow Herbs
The Campagna Amica market in Passons takes place within the municipality, in the Passons district of Pasian di Prato.
At the food events in which the Pro Loco participates, it promotes several dishes from its “alle erbe dei prati” range featuring meadow herbs. The meadow herbs are not limited to a single dish, but form the shared culinary theme of this range.
One example is orzotto alle erbe: it combines herb-based seasoning with the classic flavors of Friulian sausages and meat products. In this dish, the herbs of the meadows meet an explicitly Friulian flavor profile.
Historical Development
As early as antiquity, Pasian di Prato was situated amid an extensive meadow landscape that stretched for more than seven kilometers. The meadows are therefore part not only of today’s “Lavia Meadows” trail, but also of the town’s traditional landscape history.
In the Middle Ages, Pasian di Prato became the property of the Counts of Gorizia. Later, the town, together with all its possessions, was transferred to Rosazzo Abbey. Until 1797, Pasian di Prato was under the dominion of the Serenissima.
Afterwards, the town remained under Austrian rule until its annexation to the Kingdom of Italy in 1866. Thus, 1866 followed the end of the Serenissima in 1797.
