The history of the town reaches back to different periods. San Vito al Torre was probably part of a Roman garrison dependent on Aquileia and remained under the rule of the Patriarchate of Aquileia until 1526. Villa Gorgo Maniago comprises a manor house, two side wings arranged perpendicular to the central section to form an enclosed courtyard, and a small chapel. A devastating fire destroyed a large part of the manor house in the mid-19th century; only traces attributed to Chiarottini remain of the frescoes. Palazzo Steffaneo Roncato consists of a central building with two lateral service wings, known as barchesse. One ends in the agriculturally oriented village center, while the other ends in the area of the brickworks. The palazzo offers guided tours of the historic residence, garden, brickworks and chapel. Guided tours are available year-round; reservations at least two days in advance are required.
Cycling between Palmanova and the Torre
The cycling route between Palmanova and the Torre River passes Villa Gorgo Maniago in Nogaredo al Torre, as well as Palazzo Steffaneo Roncato in Crauglio. The Chiesa di Sant'Andrea Apostolo in Nogaredo al Torre is also along this route. This makes it possible to experience religious buildings and historic complexes as concrete stops on a cycling tour, without standardizing the character of the individual places.
