Vignone lies on the slopes of Monte Cimolo. The area extends through extensive forests on the left slope of Valle Intrasca. Vignone offers sweeping views of Lake Maggiore. The village and its hamlets contain historic buildings, along with individual traces in stone.

San Martino: churches, cemetery and La Rotonda

The monumental San Martino complex stands at the summit of a plateau overlooking the Verbania plain. It was built between the 16th and 18th centuries on the site of an existing small Romanesque chapel. The parish church of San Martino in the complex of the same name was completed in 1615. The complex comprises the parish church, the frescoed ossuary, the parish house and the cemetery surrounding the circular church of La Rotonda. La Rotonda is a circular oratory in the centre of the cemetery of the San Martino complex and is considered unique of its kind in Europe. Under La Rotonda's portico is a Stations of the Cross frescoed by Lorenzo Peretti. For those interested in culture, San Martino combines several distinct buildings with the frescoed Stations of the Cross under La Rotonda's portico.

Bureglio and traces in the village

Casa degli Archi is a typical residential building in spontaneous architecture, used for exhibitions and events. The Oratorio di San Michele was completed in 1799.

San Martino lies away from the village at the summit of a plateau; Casa degli Archi and Oratorio di San Michele are located in the hamlet of Bureglio. The Serizzo architrave is on the exterior wall of a private house in the village of Vignone and bears an engraving of three anthropomorphic figures.

Trails and historical connections

Vignone has numerous trails and mule tracks suitable for walks and hikes. A large part of these trails, though not all of them, is suitable for mountain-bike tours. The ÆQUILIBRIUM cycling circuit is 15.5 kilometres long and starts in Cambiasca. One variant of the route leads in Vignone to the hamlet of Bureglio and the rock carvings in the Belvedere locality.

A historical route through Vignone was part of a longer route. It led from the lake and from Intra to San Martino, passed through Bureglio into Valle Intrasca, crossed the Zeda and reached Switzerland. Thus, the route options include both a circular hiking route starting in Cambiasca and a historical route extending to Switzerland.
