The Santa Susanna Spring is located in the Piedicolle district. The Santa Susanna Springs were declared a natural monument in 1977 and are part of the Riserva Naturale dei Laghi Lungo e Ripasottile. This regional nature reserve includes two small lakes surrounded by reeds and damp woodland, making them suitable for birdwatching. The Santa Susanna Springs complex includes a botanical park accessible via footpaths. The power of the water also shapes the area: The springs produce approximately 5,000 litres of water per second. Guided hikes of approximately 10 kilometres are organised to combine art with the surrounding landscape. Art and Sacred Sites at Santa Susanna
Directly at the Santa Susanna Springs stands FUENTE, a digital work in the form of a mural by Roberta Lozzi. It was inaugurated on 29 September 2017. KAIROS depicts a transforming angel, a human being at the moment when their arms turn into wings. Also at the springs, you can view a votive chapel dedicated to the holy martyr Susanna. The three motifs place different emphases and make the visit interesting also for travellers who wish to explore nature and regional culture together.
During the Christmas season, an illuminated underwater nativity scene is installed in the Santa Susanna Springs and remains visible until the beginning of January. If you include seasonal highlights in your trip, this clearly time-limited experience is one of the special occasions around Piedicolle.
Summer Festival and Regional Character
The Sagra della Trota Biologica takes place on the first weekend of August in the area in front of the Santa Susanna Springs. The festival is dedicated to organic trout and crayfish. This also allows you to get to know Piedicolle through a specific summer festival date, with regional specialities and the area in front of the springs at its centre.
Rivodutri is located on the first stage of the Cammino di San Francesco, which leads from Labro to the Convento di Poggio Bustone.
