San Polo dei Cavalieri: Churches, Castle and Monti Lucretili
San Polo dei Cavalieri combines several churches with the Castello Orsini-Cesi-Borghese and the Parco Naturale Regionale dei Monti Lucretili. San Nicola di Bari: Construction Period and Features
The Chiesa di San Nicola di Bari was built between the 13th and 14th centuries. The single-nave church has a flat ceiling panel decorated in 1910 by the painter Mario Agrifoglio with Liberty-style motifs. The artistic decoration therefore dates from the early 20th century, while the church itself dates back to the Middle Ages. San Nicola di Bari thus brings together a medieval construction period and a ceiling panel added at a later date.
To the right of the altar stands the bell tower of the Chiesa di San Nicola di Bari. It was converted from an existing tower of the medieval castle. The castle is therefore part of the construction history of this church.
Santa Lucia in the Historic Centre
The Chiesa di Santa Lucia is located in the historic centre of the town and is the oldest church in the Borgo. It dates from the 15th century. Compared with San Nicola di Bari, it therefore belongs to a later construction period than San Nicola di Bari.
The Confraternita di Santa Lucia organises religious events every year in honour of the patron saint. These events carry the connection to Santa Lucia forward through the town’s annual calendar and complement the church’s historical dimension with a recurring religious occasion.
Castle on the Square of the Small Borgo
