Santa Lucia: Church, Festivals and Trails

Santa Lucia brings together a parish church, archaeological sites, religious celebrations, food events and outdoor trails.

Church and historical sites

The Chiesa di Santa Lucia is a parish church on a hill to the right of Via Palombarese in Santa Lucia di Fonte Nuova. It can be reached via a long staircase from Via Palombarese or via a side road entrance. If a long staircase is not an option for you, you can include the side entrance in your personal planning.

The site known as Grotta di Santa Lucia is located near Osteria delle Molette. It is classified as a cave believed to date from the Roman period.

The archaeological well Fonte Nuova is located on Via di Fonte Nuova between Torricella and Quarto di Santa Lucia.

Festivals, parade and religious tradition

The 48th Sagra delle Rose and the traditional parade of allegorical floats take place in Santa Lucia. The parade runs along Via Palombarese and ends at Piazza delle Rose. From 27 May to 9 June 2026, temporary changes to traffic and parking will apply – an important point if you are planning your stay for this period.

The programme for the 48th Sagra delle Rose 2026 includes a Festival del supplì and food stalls.

During the celebrations in honour of Saint Lucia on 13 December 2025, a prayer service, the blessing of a statue and fireworks at the Grotta di Santa Lucia followed a solemn parish Mass.

Trails and outdoor activities

A seven-kilometre section of the Trail delle Rose ran between Via Nomentana and Via Palombarese through Bosco Valle Cavallara, Bosco Mancini and Bosco Santa Lucia.

The Trail delle Rose in Fonte Nuova followed a 13.2-kilometre route with predominantly unpaved sections and a partially asphalted surface.

Santa Lucia also has a public outdoor fitness area with equipment for sports activities. The Area Fitness is located on Via Palombarese at the junction with Via Irpinia in the Santa Lucia district.

A stay with a variety of interests

The parish oratory Oratorio Alessandra Prandelli provides a space for children, teenagers and young adults on weekday afternoons as part of the Cortile Aperto project.

The Cortile Aperto project includes activities, workshops and opportunities for social interaction.
