Historic Centre and Coast
Montalto di Castro combines visible traces of its past with an extensive coastal landscape. Sections of an ancient city wall still surround the historic centre today. The Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta, a single-nave church, stands on Via Soldatelli. This means that the townscape offers tangible evidence of its history without its historical character being limited to a single building.
The coast of Montalto di Castro extends for more than 800 metres, bordered by vegetation-rich dunes and a pine forest. Grey sand awaits you at Spiaggia delle Murelle.
Vulci and the Etruscan Past
Vulci takes you deep into Etruscan history. The Tomba della Sfinge lies in the western necropolis and is one of two monumental hypogea. The monumental Porta Ovest dates from the second half of the 4th century BC. The Porta Est once provided access to the River Fiora, the river port and various production facilities. These historic sites reveal different aspects of the ancient city: tombs, fortifications and economic connections.
In the forum area of Vulci, the foundations of the Tempio Grande have been preserved. Near Castello della Badia, a bridge of unknown date crosses the River Fiora. The monumental Castello della Badia also houses the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Vulci. It displays vases, bronze objects and sculptures made from local stone that are associated with Vulci and range from the earliest Villanovan period to the late Roman era. This makes it possible to trace the development of the cultures associated with Vulci through different groups of objects and periods.

A reservation is mandatory to visit the Tomba François in Vulci Park. This specific planning point is part of your preparations if you wish to deliberately include the archaeological remains in the park.
Activities on the River Fiora
Vulci Park can also be explored on guided mountain bike tours. These tours pass through the archaeological excavations, along farm tracks and to the Etruscan tombs. At Vulci, an organised trekking route along the banks of the River Fiora combines an archaeological trail with a nature trail. Those wishing to combine exercise and culture will therefore find different ways to explore the area here.
Horseback rides are also available in Vulci Park with riding guides who work with the park and draw on the Butteri traditions of the Maremma. The WWF-initiated oasis near Vulci stretches along the River Fiora. Together with the paths, farmland and riverbank areas, it broadens the view from the ancient sites to the natural surroundings of the river.
