Collabassa: Romanesque Bridge, Bevera Meanders and Hiking Trails

Collabassa is of interest to travelers who want to combine a distinctive structure with a landscape of river meanders and challenging trails. The Ponte romanico in Collabassa is a single-arch bridge and is described as “Roman.” In addition, several routes connect the village with the meanders of the Bevera, the surrounding mountain landscape and the neighboring villages. Ponte romanico and access to the Ponte di Collabassa

The Ponte romanico adds a distinctive cultural feature to Collabassa. Its characteristic form is its single arch; the designation “Roman” belongs to its traditional name, without any broader historical classification being inferred from it. The easiest way to access the Ponte di Collabassa is to leave your car in Collabassa and then descend along a steep path for about 200 meters of elevation to the small bridge of the same name. The access route is therefore itself part of the landscape experience.

Hiking trails at the Bevera meanders

The Bevera meanders geosite is accessible only on foot or by mountain bike via old paths and mule tracks. A marked trail follows the meanders of the Torrente Bevera from Torri to the Ponte di Collabassa and continues to Bossarè. The trail along the Bevera meanders is exclusively suitable for experienced and well-trained hikers. The full route takes approximately 5–6 hours and includes some secured, exposed rock sections.

The route “2. A balcony into the Mediterranean – Franco Italian Tour of Mont Gramando – Stage 2” is also classified as difficult. This classification is appropriate for trip planning in which not only short walks but also more challenging trails play a role. When selecting your tour, therefore, pay particular attention to the length, terrain and physical demands of the respective route.

Connections between Torri, Collabassa and Olivetta

The Sentiero Geologico-Naturalistico del Grammondo connects Torri, Collabassa and Olivetta San Michele along the watershed between the Roja and Bevera valleys. Along this trail there are viewpoints from which you can see the deeply cut Bevera meanders from above.

The Sentiero Balcone reaches Collabassa at an elevation of 309 m and continues via Testa di Giauma toward Olivetta. For the Torri–Collabassa section, the Anello Torri-Collabassa loop can alternatively follow the Sentiero Balcone. The loop is approximately 9 km long and runs along the right bank of the Bevera between Torri and the Ponte di Collabassa. The different route lengths and trail options help you choose a hike that suits your daily schedule.

Landscape of the Val Bevera

The section of the Val Bevera shaped by the meanders is characterized by steeply inclined slopes. Near Collabassa, the meandering section of the Bevera also has a pronounced bend. Together with the elevated viewpoints on the Sentiero Geologico-Naturalistico del Grammondo, this creates a landscape that can be appreciated both up close along the river and from above. Collabassa is therefore particularly suitable for you if a journey through the Ligurian landscape should be defined by the interplay of trail, slope and river course.
