Orco Feglino connects two distinctly different landscapes: Orco lies on a ridge between the valleys of the Sciusa and the Aquila, while Feglino lies on the valley floor beside a stream. This spatial variety shapes orientation in the area and makes the town interesting for travelers who want to combine nature, history, and active excursions. When choosing your accommodation, it is therefore worth considering its location within Orco Feglino and the activities you are planning.

Landscape between ridges and valley floor

The municipal area of Orco Feglino also includes the provincial protected area of Rocche Bianche. Another important point of orientation is the Via delle Rocche Bianche: it lies within the municipal area and runs from the municipal seat to the hamlet of Orco. Together with Orco’s location on the ridge and Feglino’s on the valley floor, this creates a varied townscape that allows for both landscape and historical exploration.

Churches, museum, and fortified history

The former Oratory of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Orco is home to the Museo del Territorio. The building history of the Church of San Lorenzino in Orco spans the 12th to the 14th century; frescoes from the 15th and 16th centuries are also preserved there. The ruins of the fortified Castrum Arche, including a large square tower, are located on San Lorenzino Hill.

The early medieval Castrum of Orco can be seen in the San Lorenzino Archaeological Park. It was part of the defense system of the Marquises of Finale. In Feglino, the parish church of San Lorenzo was renovated in the Baroque style in the 19th century. Boragni also leads into another historical layer: the fortified village was built by local farmers to protect against Saracen raids.

Caves, crags, and trails

Anyone wishing to explore Orco Feglino on foot or by bicycle will find a specific destination in Ciappo delle Conche. The site can be reached on foot or by bicycle from Orco or from the San Bernardino Plateau. The Arma Strapatente loop trail begins at the first bend in the road from Orco and leads to a cave approximately 200 meters long.

In the surroundings of Orco Feglino, the Arma Strapatente loop trail runs through the forest along the climbing crags of Boragni and reaches the Grotta Strapatente. The Grotta dei Balconi is considered an almost natural arch lined with dry-stone walls. The Dolmen della Strapatente also adds a megalithic structure from the Bronze Age: a large horizontal slab of Pietra del Finale rests on five smaller stones.

Orco Feglino is a location within the Finale Outdoor Region. This landscape includes limestone walls used for climbing. Different interests therefore come together within a small area: you can view historic buildings and archaeological traces, plan routes through forest and rocky landscapes, or focus your stay more on climbing.

Routes and getting around locally

The Val di Nava e le Grotte Passanti route begins in Orco Feglino near the Church of San Lorenzo. It is connected to travel from Finale Ligure railway station by bus route 34 to the terminus at Chiesa di Orco in Orco Feglino. For planning your day, this allows you to consider a route starting near the town together with a specific public transport connection, without requiring the different routes to have the same starting point.

Winegrowing and local character

Vineyards are also part of Orco Feglino’s local character. Lumassina and Barbarossa are produced from the vineyards. These two wines complement the image of a place where landscape, historical evidence, and regional agriculture exist side by side.

Depending on whether you want to focus on culture, hikes, caves, climbing crags, or the regional wine tradition, you can base your choice of location on the parts of the town that matter most to you.
