Historic Town Centre and Religious Architecture
The first settlement core of Azzano San Paolo developed near the present-day “Chiesa vecchia”. The historic settlement area is still known as “castello”. This name and the Roman origins provide the town with a historical framework that is particularly suitable for visitors interested in local history.
The Chiesa di San Paolo is located in the historic centre of Azzano San Paolo. Its floor plan comprises three naves: the central nave is wider than the narrower and lower side naves. These side naves are covered by vaults decorated with stucco and paintings. The central nave was extended in 1705 and remodelled in Baroque forms. This gives the church several architectural details that you can specifically look out for during a cultural exploration.
A different architectural accent can be seen at the Chiesa della Conversione di San Paolo. It has an elongated octagonal floor plan and is considered a distinctive example of modern religious architecture. Its façade is dominated by a very tall centrally positioned bell tower. The upper section also contains three areas with coloured windows made of glass-concrete elements. For those interested in culture, the Baroque remodelling of the central nave and the octagonal floor plan can be considered concrete architectural features.
The Chiesa di Sant’Anna is also known as the “Church of the Dead”. It was built after the plague of 1630, incorporating an existing small chapel.

In addition to the churches, several parks form part of the townscape. Parco Avis - Aido features a monument to donors created by the sculptor Franco Dotti. Parco di Via della Pace has a large arena where various performances are held. Parcobaleno is also easily accessible for people with disabilities and children.
