Between Aristocratic Residence and Sacred History

Corte Franca combines impressive evidence of the past with routes through the landscape and the history of Franciacorta wine. Palazzo Torri is a fortified aristocratic villa from the 17th century. The Federici della Corte family built it on the site of an older military outpost from the 16th century. This is where the historical exploration begins, at a building whose development spans several centuries.

Palazzo Torri took on a special role through Paolina Calegari Torri (1856–1931) and her husband Alessandro (1844–1917). Together, they transformed the palazzo into a cultural salon where parties, meetings, debates and cultural initiatives took place. For your travel planning, this site therefore provides access to a history in which architecture and social life are interconnected. Prior arrangements with the staff are required for a visit.

Churches with Different Historical Traces

The Chiesa di Sant'Eufemia was founded in the 8th or 9th century. It can be reached on foot via a paved path that leads up the hill between stone retaining walls.

The former Chiesa dei Santi Cosma e Damiano also reaches far back into history. Since the 12th century, together with the Oratorio di Santa Giulia, it has been associated with the possessions of the Santa Giulia di Brescia monastery. The main entrance is on foot via a paved forecourt; no obvious architectural barriers can be identified. At the Chiesa di San Salvatore in Borgonato, it is also possible to visit the interior.

You can find further sacred traces in the Chiesa di S. Maria in Zenighe. Sculptural fragments from liturgical furnishings dated to the 9th century are preserved there. The Chiesa di San Salvatore in Borgonato is the surviving part of an ancient fortified refuge on the promontory known as Dosso.

Hiking, Cycling and Views

Several different trail experiences are available for active days. The third stage of the 130-kilometre Via delle Sorelle hiking trail passes through Timoline, Colombaro and Nigoline. A section of the Bergamo–Brescia cycle path also runs through Timoline, following the southern edge of the Riserva Naturale delle Torbiere del Sebino. The two routes offer different ways to explore the surroundings on foot or by bicycle.

The 651-metre-high summit of Monte Alto can be reached via several routes, including the approximately 30-minute Sentiero dei Ponti and the more challenging, approximately two-hour Sentiero della Scala Santa. From the cross at the summit, there is a view of Lago d'Iseo and the Prealpi.

Franciacorta and Local Events

Franciacorta wine is also part of the region's identity. It originated in 1961 in Borgonato with the first bottle of a wine that underwent a second fermentation in the same container. A recurring event is the Festa del Comune in Corte Franca: it takes place every year on the first Sunday in September, with music, performances and good food. Depending on when you travel, you can therefore incorporate cultural history, landscapes and culinary tradition into different focuses of your trip.

Getting There and Choosing a Location

Borgonato–Adro is one of the nearest railway stations to Corte Franca on the Brescia–Iseo–Edolo line. Corte Franca is also served by FNMA Autoservizi bus connections.
