Castello di Padenghe and the townscape

Castello di Padenghe stands on a hill overlooking the town. It has a square keep measuring 20 m in height. Its medieval structure, featuring massive walls made of large pebbles and three towers, has been preserved; the central tower has collapsed. The site therefore reveals both its defensive character and traces of its architectural history.

Romanesque religious buildings

The Pieve di Sant'Emiliano is a Romanesque stone church dating from the 11th to the 12th century. It stands outside the present-day town center on a small moraine promontory near Castello di Padenghe. The Pieve di Sant'Emiliano is visible on three sides: the façade, the north side and the area around the apse.

The Church of Madonna della Neve is also part of Padenghe's architectural history; it was completed in 1606. The Church of Santa Maria Assunta is first mentioned in the report on the pastoral visit of October 13, 1454. In 1525, it was granted parish status, transferred from the old Pieve di Sant'Emiliano. The rebuilt Church of Santa Maria Assunta was consecrated on June 19, 1628; the rebuilding was carried out by Monsignor Aurelio Averoldi.

The Palazzo Barbieri is another part of the historic building stock. It was built on older walls and has an 18th-century U-shaped design. In Padenghe, you will therefore encounter not only defensive architecture and churches, but also secular buildings with older architectural layers.

Porto Villa Garuti and seasonal operations

Porto Villa Garuti has 61 berths, including one emergency berth and six temporary berths. From June to October, a landing stage for Navigarda vessels operates on Via Porto. If you include the harbor area and boat services in your trip planning, this is the relevant seasonal period. The number and distribution of the berths also reflect the different uses of Porto Villa Garuti.
