Rovello Porro between the Lura and the plain

Rovello Porro lies in the Po Valley of Lombardy in northern Italy, on the banks of the Torrente Lura. At the same time, Rovello Porro is part of Parco del Lura, a local park of supra-municipal interest. Here, the flat Lombard landscape combines with a river environment and a multilayered local history.

Within the built-up area of Rovello Porro, Parco Lura offers a protected path along the river, as well as landscaping and ecological enhancement of the park area by the river. In the Parco Lura area, there is also a dedicated cycle and pedestrian path running from Via Pagani towards Saronno. This allows you to incorporate the river environment into your daily plans according to your preferred mode of transport.

Level paths along the river

The walking path between Rovello Porro and Saronno is easy, completely flat, 4.7 kilometres long, and runs on an unpaved surface. If you are looking for a route with clearly defined physical and spatial conditions, this connection offers an easy-to-assess option for a walk. The cycle and pedestrian path in Parco Lura complements the route described above with a separate course from Via Pagani towards Saronno.

Churches, villas, and local history

The Santuario della Beata Vergine del Carmine was formerly known as S. Maria della Lura and already existed in Rovello Porro in the 13th century in the form of a small rural chapel. The Festa della Madonna del Carmine includes a procession with the statue of the Madonna, which still takes place on the third Sunday in July. The Ul Gesiöo chapel was built towards the end of the 17th century and dedicated to Santa Eurosia. Villa Porro is a 17th-century villa in Rovello Porro.

The Chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Paolo features a bronze portal by sculptor Giorgio Galletti with scenes from the lives of the patron saints. The Teatro San Giuseppe in Rovello Porro, with more than 300 seats, also provides cultural variety.

Another connection to contemporary history is the Roman necropolis discovered in Rovello Porro in 1977/78. It comprised around 40 graves; the coins found there date from the 1st century BC to the 1st century AD.

In the immediate vicinity of Rovello Porro are Palazzo Visconti, a palace, and Museo Giuseppe Gianetti, a museum.
