Water Landscape in the Built-Up Area

Parco Custera is located on the right bank of the Lura stream within the built-up area of Lurate Caccivio. The park includes a wetland that serves as a flood retention basin for the Lura stream.

The PLIS Sorgenti del Torrente Lura extends across approximately 2,000 hectares and ten municipalities in the Province of Como. It protects various watercourses north of Milan.

Kneipp Trail and Ciclovia dei Laghi

Parco Custera contains a Kneipp trail, which is considered a hydrotherapeutic path. The Kneipp treatment is intended for independent use with groundwater. For visitors who wish to combine experiences in nature with a quiet activity, this trail is one of the park's distinctive features.

Cyclists will also find a connection to a larger route in Lurate Caccivio. The Ciclovia dei Laghi is a 270-kilometre cycle route through the provinces of Varese, Como and Lecco. It runs mostly along cycle paths or lightly trafficked side roads. In the area of Parco Sorgenti del Torrente Lura, the Ciclovia dei Laghi passes through Lurate Caccivio.

Churches and Historic Buildings

The Castello dell'Abate essentially served as the abbot's residence. Part of the tower and several of the abbot's reception rooms in the south wing have survived from the complex. Thus, Lurate Caccivio is home to a building whose preserved rooms are closely connected with its former function.

The present appearance of the Chiesa della Santissima Annunciata largely dates back to extensions carried out between 1873 and 1879. The church has a regular layout with three naves, a semicircular apse and chapels along the side aisles. Its façade is particularly elaborate, with Ionic pilasters, a portal framed in stucco on Corinthian columns and three arched windows.

The Chiesa di San Martino was the only parish church of the ecclesiastical fiefdom of Luriate until 1583. Its single-nave layout, rectangular apse and five side niches define the preserved interior arrangement. In the Church of San Luigi Gonzaga, four side chapels with marble altars and statues of saints are among the most distinctive features; the statues stand in niches with gilded mosaics.

Textile Industry and Older Traces

Tessiture Meccaniche Stucchi was founded in the 19th century and employed more than 1,000 people within a few decades. The complex preserves original features such as sawtooth roofs, fences with brick bands and several Liberty-style details. Several buildings remain from the now-disused factory, which is considered an example of industrial archaeology.

Caccivio also leads into an older past. The Oratory of Saints Peter and Paul in Caccivio was consecrated in 1574. A Roman necropolis with cremation burials was discovered at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in 1889; the burials are dated to the period between AD 96 and 192.

The Chiesa della Natività di Maria Vergine, also known as Madonna De Lura, appears to have ancient origins. A document from 1095 reports its consecration by Pope Urban II. This cautious chronological classification makes the site a special point of reference for the early history of Lurate Caccivio.
