Crema between the Duomo, the Serio and Cremasco cuisine

Crema brings together the Gothic Duomo, paths along the Serio, a museum with Egyptian collections and typewriters, and Cremasco specialities. This cityscape is complemented by a tour of the filming locations of “Call Me By Your Name”.

The Serio riverside and historic green space

The “Un parco per tutti” path runs for approximately 1.5 km along the right bank of the Serio within the city of Crema. It has almost no incline and a calcestre surface. This makes the path suitable for older people, families with children and wheelchair users.

In the historic centre, the Giardini Pubblici di Piazza delle Rimembranze, also known as the Giardini di Porta Serio, are the most important green space.

The Duomo, towers and churches

The Duomo was built between 1284 and 1341 as a Gothic church. Cylindrical pillars divide its three naves into five bays. An apse in the southern aisle, accessible from the crypt, preserves a brick altar from the first half of the 12th century decorated with wall paintings.

The Torrazzo is part of the Palazzo Comunale and connects Piazza del Duomo with Porta Ombriano in the western city walls, which opens towards Milan. At the same time, the Torrazzo is the civic tower above the monumental entrance to Piazza del Duomo. The Chiesa di San Benedetto Abate was incorporated into Crema’s new ring of walls during Venetian rule from 1488 to 1509; originally, it stood in one of the city’s three outlying districts. The Santissima Trinità, also known as Santa Trinita, is a Rococo church with two façades joined by a bevelled corner.

A museum with regional and international connections

The Museo Civico di Crema e del Cremasco is housed in rooms formerly used by an Augustinian monastery. Its Egyptian collections currently comprise more than 200 artefacts, most of which are on public display. The museum also exhibits part of a collection of more than 200 typewriters, including Italian examples and, in particular, machines made in Crema by Serio-Everest and Olivetti.

On foot, by bicycle and in the footsteps of film

The “CMBYN city tour” follows the filming locations of “Call Me By Your Name” and can be explored on foot or by bicycle. The Itinerario dei Navigli Cremonesi connects with the Serio cycle path and begins at Crema railway station on the Treviglio–Cremona line.

Cremasco cuisine

Tortelli cremaschi are considered the most typical dish of the Cremasco area and are served all year round in the city’s trattorias and restaurants. Torta Bertolina is the typical dessert of Crema and the Cremasco area.
