Churches with history and art

The present-day Chiesa di Sant’Eufemia in Drizzona was built at the end of the 18th century. It replaced an earlier place of worship that dates back at least to the 15th century. The single-nave building has a simple, slender façade with Corinthian columns. Its interior preserves altarpieces and other works from earlier churches, including works by Nicolò Zappa and Marc’Antonio Ghislina. In this way, clear architectural lines meet an ecclesiastical history spanning several centuries.

In Castelfranco d’Oglio, Drizzona, stands the Chiesa di San Bartolomeo, a subsidiary church of the Diocese of Cremona. Its single-nave layout and façade with Neoclassical lines are among its defining architectural features; the façade was designed at the end of the 19th century by Monsignor Parazzi. The church is first documented on 20 April 1521. The visitation document from that time also mentions an unenclosed cemetery in the square in front of the church.

Memory, festivals and local traditions

The Casa delle Arti e del Gioco – Mario Lodi in Drizzona promotes the knowledge and dissemination of Mario Lodi’s teaching, thought and works through research, studies and projects aimed at enhancing historical memory. The festival days also provide concrete occasions for planning your trip: on 24 August, the feast of the patron saint San Bartolomeo takes place in Castelfranco d’Oglio. During the celebration, the statue of the saint is carried through the streets to the Oglio riverbank, placed on a boat and taken a short distance along the river. In Drizzona, the Sagra di Sant'Omobono is celebrated on 13 November.

Wetlands and the Oglio riverbanks

The Lanche di Castelfranco wetlands lie within the Special Protection Area (SPA) of the Oglio Sud Regional Park and are entirely surrounded by an agricultural landscape. A path along the Oglio river embankments begins at the old roller mill building of the Carlo Zelioli company. Those who appreciate nature observation and open cultivated landscapes will therefore find a second, landscape-focused perspective on Drizzona.
