Introzzo between mountain paths and local history

Introzzo combines mountain landscapes, traces of history and local traditions. Around the village, paths, ecclesiastical history, alpine landscapes and regional events come together. The sites are located in the village, on Monte Legnoncino and along the routes through Valvarrone.

Monte Legnoncino: chapel, meadows and traces of history

Shortly before the summit of Monte Legnoncino lies the small Chapel of San Sfirio at an altitude of 1,714 metres. At the access point to Monte Legnoncino there is also a large meadow, which is now set up as a picnic area. The chapel and picnic area are therefore located at different points on Monte Legnoncino.

From the walking path to Monte Legnoncino, some recently restored trenches of the Frontiera Nord can be visited. Along this section, Monte Legnoncino combines mountain scenery with traces of military history. The name Frontiera Nord is one of the military-historical traces associated with this path.

The footpath to Monte Legnoncino from the area near the Roccoli Lorla mountain hut takes about one hour. The approximate walking time is relevant for planning an excursion and can be considered as a separate time block. It refers to the route from the area near the Roccoli Lorla mountain hut to Monte Legnoncino, not to the duration of a stay at the individual points.

Historic routes around Introzzo

The historic mule track to Subiale, which the inhabitants of Introzzo usually call Mont, began directly in the village. The name Mont refers to Subiale and not to Introzzo.

A larch forest begins at Subiale, regarded as a community asset.

The SP 67 continues to connect Avano, Tremenico, Introzzo, Sueglio and Vestreno with the lakeshore at Dervio. On the SP 67 running through Introzzo, a route intersects with the Sentiero del Viandante. The historic mule track and the present-day SP 67 therefore represent different routes around Introzzo. The road connection and the intersection with the Sentiero del Viandante do not refer to the same route.

Ecclesiastical history in the village landscape

Above the inhabited centre of Introzzo lies the Church of Sant’Antonio Abate; locally, it is also called Sant’Antoni. It is located along the former connecting route between the villages of Valvarrone.

The church has medieval origins and was completely rebuilt in the 18th century.

Traditions with a fixed place in the annual calendar

Local events include dates tied to the annual calendar. Introzzo’s traditional Castagnata takes place on the second Sunday in October in the area below the town hall.

“Sapori di una volta in cascina” is a food tour recalling dishes from the past and has been offered for several years on the first Sunday in August. Its reference to dishes from earlier times gives the tour a culinary and historical focus. August and October separate the tour from the Castagnata in the annual calendar.

Other destinations in the same area include: Fiumelatte, Casatenovo, Premana, Arlate, Piantedo, Cassago Brianza, Cremeno and Olgiate Molgora.
