Vestreno lies on the slopes of Legnoncino and is characterised by a natural setting rich in biodiversity. For a trip to Valvarrone, the village combines the experience of the landscape with religious sites, walking trails and cycling routes.

Orientation between Vestreno and the Lake

The provincial road SP 67 is important for getting your bearings in the area. It connects Vestreno, as well as Avano, Tremenico, Introzzo and Sueglio, with the lakeshore at Dervio. This makes it possible to consider Vestreno in travel planning in connection with Valvarrone and the lake, rather than viewing the village as an isolated destination.

Pilgrimage Destination and Churches

A prominent destination is the Santuario della Madonna di Bondo, which is also known as the Santuario della Beata Vergine or Santuario della Madonna della Pietà. It is located at an altitude of about 700 m in the hamlet of Bondo di Vestreno in Valvarrone. Along the route to the Santuario di Bondo are iron crosses depicting the individual Stations of the Cross.

The Chiesa di San Giacomo is located in the centre of Vestreno. It is dedicated to Saints James and Paul. Children currently visit the church for the novena during Advent and the Stations of the Cross during Lent.

Campetto: Playground and Sports Courts

Campetto includes a small playground with slides, swings and seesaws. Campetto also has courts for small-sided football, volleyball, mini-basketball and tennis, as well as a table tennis table.

Historic Trails and Views of the Lake

A trail starting from Bacino e Paul leads to a military barracks built at the beginning of the 20th century. The area around the military barracks near Bacino e Paul offers views of the lake. Here, a historic destination and a scenic viewpoint come together, without this implying any particular length of stay or a fixed route.

Cycling Routes around Vestreno

The “Pedalate sul lago” route begins in Bondal at an altitude of 470 m in the Vestreno area. It passes the Madonna di Bondo chapel and an Enel reservoir, then returns to Vestreno. A route starting from Vestreno also reaches the Santuario della Madonna di Bondo. From Madonna di Bondo, it continues by bicycle to the mountain villages of Dorio.

This route passes through Vezzee Sparesee, offering beautiful views of the lake, and then descends to Posallo di Colico. The cycling routes have different focuses: the “Pedalate sul lago” route returns to Vestreno, while the route starting from Vestreno passes via the Santuario della Madonna di Bondo, the mountain villages of Dorio, Vezzee Sparesee and Posallo di Colico.
